Located far south of \u00c6terno-Prime, the fields of Verdaine are strange plains where there is only war.
Surrounded by a thick persistent fog, facing nameless horrors and monsters emerging from it, or delusional fellows, the lost men, women, and everything in-between, trapped in Verdaine die here of a sick and mandatory death, often alone and craving for it.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Situ\u00e9s loin au sud d’\u00c6terno-Prime, les champs de Verdaine sont d’\u00e9tranges plaines o\u00f9 ne r\u00e8gnent que la guerre. Entour\u00e9\u00b7e\u00b7s d’un \u00e9pais brouillard permanent, affrontant monstres et horreurs sans noms, hommes, femmes, et autres perdu\u00b7e\u00b7s en ces lieux meurent d’une fin maladive et in\u00e9luctable, souvent seul\u00b7e\u00b7s et accueillant soulag\u00e9\u00b7e\u00b7s cette derni\u00e8re.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Because most of the so-called soldiers fighting in this faceless war are just mere poor souls tricked into it. A few centuries back, the prosperous city of \u00c6terno-Prime had to face a terrible threat, and a young but ambitious Noble head named Khallus ran an electoral campaign aiming to levy citizens, arming and sending them off to fight for the city. Freshly recruited soldiers continue this tradition up to this day, hoping for better life conditions once their service is done, but most of them barely sees the end of it, and the rest are so mentally damaged by their experience, they are put in charge of their new fellows, instead of being treated like they should be due for their years of serving the spaceport.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Car ce n’est pas un myst\u00e8re que les soi-disant “soldats” se battant dans cette guerre sans but ne sont que de pauvres h\u00e8res qui ont \u00e9t\u00e9 dup\u00e9s. Il y a de cela quelques si\u00e8cles, la cit\u00e9 jadis prosp\u00e8re d’\u00c6terno-Prime dut faire face \u00e0 une menace terrible, et un noble jeune mais ambitieux nomm\u00e9 Khallus fit campagne pour lever des citoyens arm\u00e9s qu’on enverrait au front. Ainsi les soldats fra\u00eechement recrut\u00e9s continuent encore aujourd’hui cette tradition s\u00e9culaire, esp\u00e9rant de meilleures conditions de vie \u00e0 leur retour mais voyant rarement la fin de leur service, les quelques survivants \u00e9tant trop rendus fous et abrutis par la guerre pour rentrer, \u00e9tant en lieu et place promus au commandement de leurs nouveaux camarades.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

As of lately, the fog and its horror has thickened even more, weirdness like never seen before calling out in the night and obliterating positions in the day, pushing folks deep into their trenches. But it is rumored amongst the soldiers of the XIV-18 Company that, in order to relieve their pain, a new batch of comrades should aim toward their outpost very soon…<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Derni\u00e8rement le brouillard et ses horreurs se sont intensifi\u00e9s, des \u00e9tranget\u00e9s encore jamais vues criant dans la nuit et massacrant les positions avanc\u00e9es de jour, obligeant tout le monde \u00e0 se cacher profond\u00e9ment dans leurs tranch\u00e9es. Mais les rumeurs au sein de la Compagnie du XIV-18\u00e8me<\/sup> annoncent qu’un contingent de recrues arriverait bient\u00f4t pour les soulager un peu…<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Like I said in the very first article on this blog, it’s no wonder why our trip on \u00e6ternopia will stop in a very WW1 inspired setting for its first real step… As for the name, everyone guessed it comes from the so-called battle of Verdun, but mixed with some celtic influences: being full of weird mythological creatures and Beltaine being the celebration of the upcoming war season (amongst other things), it seemed appropriate to name the region based on it.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Comme je l’avais pr\u00e9c\u00e9demment mentionn\u00e9, c’est sans surprise que nous nous arr\u00eaterons pour la premi\u00e8re \u00e9tape de notre voyage dans un lieu tr\u00e8s inspir\u00e9 de la 1\u00e8re<\/sup> Guerre Mondiale… Comme vous l’aurez devin\u00e9, le nom vient bien s\u00fbr de la Bataille de Verdun, mix\u00e9 avec des influences celtiques: empli de cr\u00e9atures folkloriques, et Beltaine \u00e9tant la f\u00eate c\u00e9l\u00e9brant l’ouverture de la saison d\u00e9di\u00e9e aux guerres, il me semblait appropri\u00e9 de nommer la r\u00e9gion en lien avec.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
